REGION 1 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Brittany Flowers

Brittney Flowers. Born and raised in Fairbanks Alaska, and moved to Anchorage Alaska after college. I was a member of WE United.

My partner is Southern Xpose “Savannah” is a 2006 black Canadian Warmblood mare. She is built for dressage but enjoys challenges in the arena. She is great with obstacles and really seems to enjoy working equitation.

Growing up I was involved in 4-H and Pony Club as well as Horsemasters once I aged out of Pony Club. I enjoyed all things horse related: jumping, western, trail riding, dressage.

Trisha Keifer-Reed was my riding instructor starting in Pony Club at age 16. I remember showing her a video of Pedro Torres a long time ago thinking how cool/unattainable it looked.

My first WE clinic was with Trisha when she came up for her yearly Alaskan clinic. I then was able to ride with Julie Alonzo in a WE clinic as well. I have been lucky enough to be offered catch rides on a few of Trisha’s horses and have been able to travel to Montana three years in a row to ride in B-rated WE shows.

On Savannah, I really enjoy the gate. It takes having control over all the different parts of your horse to complete it with finesse.

I would like to help introduce WE to Alaska outside of the current clinics we have. I think having a show and qualifying for regionals on my own horse would be amazing.

I attend every WE clinic in Alaska. I travel 6-7 hours to Fairbanks once a year to attend the clinic there. I have also helped host WE clinics in Anchorage as well as a few play days at the local horse center.

Chamberlain Equestrian Center has hosted all of the Anchorage working equitation events. It includes a full-sized dressage arena, indoor arena, large event arena, warmup arena, rodeo arena and a large maintained trail system with bridges and a small creek crossing right in the middle of Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city.

I travel to Montana one to two times a year and show in Missoula on horses borrowed from Trisha, my instructor. I am able to have around two schooling rides on her horses before the shows. I was able to qualify a young horse for Regionals at this last show as well as placing 4th in my division.
