R6 March 2022

By: Kim Hillyer

Hello Region 6 members.

I hope everyone is getting to ride and prepare for a great year with Working Equitation.  There are a lot of activities listed on the Events page of the USA working equitation Region 6 Facebook page (  Take a look and see what is near you.  Even if you can’t ride, it is worth going if you can.  Watching is such a good way to learn.  If you don’t see anything near you, send me a message via email or FB messenger, and I can try to help you organized something closer to you.  The best way to get something started, is to make some obstacles, study the rule book, and then organize either a play day or have someone come give a clinic.  Many of our Affiliate Organizations started just that way.  Our region now has 9 Affiliate Organizations.  What a great accomplishment!  We could use a few more.  Some areas lacking WE Affiliate Organizations is West Virginia, Southwest Virginia, Western PA, and New York.  New York is a big state, and only has one AO in Bloomfield, NY.  Even if you only have a small group interested in working equitation, you can start an affiliate organization.  This is the best way for others interested in WE to find you.

Another thing that is lacking in our region a lack of coaches in the USAWE Coaches Network. ( This is a great program for instructors of Working Equitation.  If you think you’d be interested, take a look at the requirements.  The benefits of being part of the coaches network is “national recognition as a working equitation professional, promotion on the USAWE website including a bio, photo and link to your business website, and be part of a diverse network of trainers and instructors committed to improving horsemanship through working equitation.”

Make sure you all have November 3 – 6, 2022 marked on your calendars!  That is the date for the USAWE Eastern Zone Championships.  Remember, if you have a qualifying score from last year (2021), you are half way there to qualifying for the Zone Championship show.  Get out there and earn your 2nd score.  We’d love to see you at the Championships.  The show will be is beautiful Bulls Gap, TN at Three Bulls, LLC.  Three Bulls is a beautiful farm with a 220 x 105 indoor arena, and 165 x 185 outdoor arena.  There is a 19 stall main barn with kitchen, bathrooms, showers, and a 3,000 sq foot conference room.  There are 2 guest barns with 20 stalls, 8 guest paddocks with shelters.  Eastern Region Andalusian Horse Club is putting on the Eastern Zone Championships at Three Bulls.  ERAHC has a long history of putting on shows and events with the ERAHC flair for hospitality, friendship, and family.  There will be a competitor’s reception, and other fun activities, prize money, and morning hospitality with coffee and donuts.  Be on the lookout for the Eastern Zone Championship Facebook page for updates.

Also, be on the lookout for Affiliate Organization March updates on the USAWE region 6 FB page.

Happy Riding,
